impeach yourself, america.

Monday, April 16th, 2018

James Comey steps about and lands somewhere short here… in the “you lay in the bed you made for yourselves” token.

While many of Mr. Trump’s critics believe that the proper remedy for his perceived transgressions is impeachment, Mr. Comey insisted that would just “let the American people off the hook.” He said the public was “duty bound” to vote Mr. Trump out of office in the next election.

I suppose the reticence will always be about until we get tired of impeaching most everyone, and for practical purposes it would take a chunk of his voters to decide it is a thing that ought be done, but leaning into the premise… the words “Morally unfit” jump out as negating to the premise.  By this logic, Nixon –   should have stayed… lest his ouster “let the American people off the hook”… as too any elected President.  And only Ford can be impeached.

Actually, at this point in time, I have to wonder: a “pee tape” is released.  What exactly is the reaction that comes from this?

What’s in a name?

The National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans is promoting the event on its website and social media.

The National Constitutional Coalition of Patriotic Americans?  (Or, NCCPA if you will.)  Seriously.  How could they not have gotten the word “Liberty” into the name?

“Modern thinkers feel the need to strip away our natural born right to self-protection by limiting the available weapons that are at our disposal. They blame mental illness without documentation. They blame everything except the sole responsible party, the person involved in the action,” the coalition says on its site.

The enemy of the NCCPA: “modern thinkers”.  Dagnabit.

Actually, come to think of it… shouldn’t they get the word “Freedom” into the name as well?

We won’t have … paul ryan… to kick around anymore.  He leaves a legacy of getting the tax cut that he wanted, and was it three? four?  years of glowering behind Obama during his SOTU speeches.

Reportedly, Nancy Pelosi will have a chance to glower behind Trump during his SOTU speeches for a couple years.  Which should emerge as her late career legacy.

It’s about what I think it is.  Zuckerberg goes before the US Senate.  The Senate asks questions.  And, to a pretty great extent, the Senators… have no idea what they’re talking about or asking.

Not disappointing, as per the press coverage.  Or maybe it is disappointing.  Unfortunately, the likes of Ted Stevens and “a series of tubes” are gone.  (Worth pointing out, Ted Stevens has his defenders out in tech land.)  What we’re left with is… spittles of individual relevance in a sea of irrelevance, with everyone briefed just enough so that they don’t speak of series of tubes.

Still…

buttons

At the moment, apropor of very little, I have this button on my shirt.

Woooh.  It flashes.  “Holographic”… so… you know… when you take one step forward what was once a picture of Richard Nixon is now a word of affirmation, that the wearer is “for” him.

A damnable little item, probably more worthwhile than something for Truman or Carter… if not for a fluke of nickname catchiness to form “I Like Ike”, he’d probably be dead in the water as well… as the anti-Nixon kitsch blends in with the pro-Nixon kitsch.  For all the Obama tinkets shoved out there in his 2008 run, I don’t much see it as having appeal in five and six decades.  Nor with Bush, for that matter.  Trump will probably have some appeal.   (See him popping up on a documentary about the USFL, somewhat more conspicuously and shadily than had he not become president.)  So, well… start saving your Trump MAGA merchandise stuff now?

Though, Nixon used more advanced technology.

the recurring problem of press coverage

The question of the day:  do you want to see the youtube videos of the woman who shot at youtube headquarters?

I have no answer to that question, and won’t think too much of it if you do.  Some of them are… interesting enough… as cultural commentary… of a sort.  News reports initially came in that they’re “random and all over the place”, but new reports seem to have gotten a handle on the basic tenets of her online presence.  Now she’s an “Iranian born” “Vegan Vlogger”.

What I’m left with, though, is that nauseous question of seeing images from her youtube channels on the teevee news… Inevitably, this will be out there, and online outlets will flush this all out for anyone’s perturbed edification… but somehow, I’d just as soon have it at least a step or two away from the massest media fame-maker.
