The real reason to draft Michael Sam is not because he’s a good player, or to strike a blow for equality, but because he’ll sell a boatload of jerseys. (Kind of the reason the Jets had for picking up Tim Tebow — he wasn’t a particularly good player for the Broncos and was still the number one jersey seller).
But the name… Sam. I remember a “Bob” mock jersey item that was a popular item some time back. Player aside, when you have a chance to sell “Sam” (or names like that), you may just go for it for that reason.
