Turning to the Republican Primary fights in Utah.

Rick Santorum endorsed the “Tea Party” challenger to Orrin Hatch.  “In a deeply conservative state like Utah, we must elect authentic conservatives,” Santorum said. “I believe Dan Liljenquist is that candidate.

Is Santorum someone anyone takes seriously as a harbinger of something?

There is a theory of sorts at work, I guess.  Utah should have the two most right wing Senators in the Senate.  I guess.  That’s the word I got surging about for why the reasonably conservative Senator Bennett went down in 2010 to now Senator Lee.  Bennett, you understand, was ranked the 10th most liberal Republican Senator by Human Events on their list of 10 “RINO”s — undoubtedly since replaced by … er… maybe Senator Orrin Hatch, just because someone has to qualify for that title, and the list keeps getting pulled right-ward… and likely too just because they’d have an agenda to promote in pushing a Primary challenge.  See too:

Liljenquist’s campaign has launched a new ‘microsite’ called Hatch76.com highlighting the difference between Hatch’s campaign rhetoric in 1976 and his message used in 2012.
Notably, of course…

Yeah, it looks like Liljenquist won’t win.  Or, he’ll have to wait another six years for Hatch’s retirement to get into the Senate.  But if he were to win, just wait four decades and have your campaign against the Old Guard thrown right back at you.

Hm.  Write-ups are insane sometimes.

The win would be a triumph for Hatch, but a big win would be an even bigger triumph, especially given how big a target he was at the beginning of the cycle.  IE:  … We got no story here.

So the Utah Republican Primary has turned out to be a snore.  The incumbent that’s going to fall is out in New York — the ethically challenged Charles Rangel.  And what are we left in Utah to watch for?

It will be fun to get the results for the Utah Republican Presidential Primary.  It’s Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, and Fred Karger.

During his visit to Utah, Karger met with Washington County Republican Party Chairman Willie Billings, who Karger said was “welcoming” and “friendly.” After their meeting, which was first reported by the Los Angeles Times, Karger gave Billings some  campaign paraphernalia, including a Frisbee and a T-Shirt. When Billings brought the souvenirs home, however, his wife, Nanette Billings, threw them in the garbage and fired off an email to Karger, calling him “a radical idiot” and saying “thank goodness” he “cant procreate.”
Billings confirmed that she sent the email through Karger’s website.
“My feeling is the only reason he’s running for president is to find more [sexual] partners,” Nanette Billings told Yahoo News in a phone interview. “To get more people on his bandwagon.”

No.  Frankly I think the only person running for President to find more sexual partners is Vermin Supreme.
