Rudy outdoes God
There is something I do not particularly understand.
Rudy Giuliani unveiled his “12 Commandments”. It is a list of boiler plate Republican positions, appropriate enough platform for a Republican nominating run. I notice some eyes piqued at its lack of mention of Iraq, but I can easily explain that by pointing to one of the differences between the Democratic and Republican debates: the Democrats are required by their primary constituents to explain how they would get US troops out of Iraq; the Republicans are required by their Primary constituents to explain how they would get US troops into Iran.
A more interesting puzzlement, at least in my eyes, is simply: How presumptuous is this? 12 Commandments??? That’s two more than god freaking GOD! Is this going to get to the religious right? I don’t see how. Nor do I see how it would get to a sort of sidebar libertarian or neo-con (two different things, yes) fundamentally secularist voter that Giuliana might be pursuing in lieu of the religious right voter.  (Note that he came out as a pro-choice candidate to those ends).
I am reminded of the Mel Brooks written Moses bit.
